These notes are part of the regulation. They change how the levels above are applied.

VA Disability Rating: Disease or Injury of the Vulva or Clitoris (Diagnostic Code 7610)
Body System: Gynecological Conditions and Disorders of the Breast • Governed by 38 CFR § 4.116
What This Condition Is
Diagnostic Code 7610 covers disease or injury of the vulva or clitoris, including vulvovaginitis. It is one of several conditions of the female reproductive organs that the VA evaluates.
Because this condition falls under the General Rating Formula for Disease, Injury, or Adhesions of Female Reproductive Organs (diagnostic codes 7610 through 7615), the VA uses a shared framework to assign a rating based on your symptoms and the treatment they require.
How the VA Rates It
Under the general rating formula, ratings are based on whether your symptoms require ongoing treatment and how well they are controlled:
| Rating | Criteria |
|---|---|
| 30% | Symptoms not controlled by continuous treatment |
| 10% | Symptoms that require continuous treatment |
| 0% | Symptoms that do not require continuous treatment |
What the VA Looks For
When evaluating a condition under this formula, the VA focuses on:
- Whether your symptoms require continuous treatment. A condition managed without ongoing treatment is generally evaluated at the 0% level.
- Whether continuous treatment is needed to manage symptoms. Symptoms that require continuous treatment fall at the 10% level.
- Whether symptoms remain uncontrolled despite continuous treatment. When continuous treatment does not control the symptoms, the condition may be evaluated at the 30% level.
Important Note
- Ovarian dysfunction is rated separately. For VA disability evaluation purposes, a disease, injury, or adhesions of the ovaries resulting in ovarian dysfunction that affects the menstrual cycle — such as dysmenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea — is rated under diagnostic code 7615.

Knowing the criteria is the first half. Getting your file to show them is the second.
Find your level in the stack
Read each rung against what your medical records already say. The level your records document today is the one the VA can support today.
Name the gap
Look at the rung above yours and write down exactly what it asks for that your file does not show yet — a diagnosis, a measurement, a prescribed brace, a doctor’s opinion linking it to service.
Claim it by code
File under diagnostic code 7610 and attach the evidence for the level you are asking for. Other Gynecological Conditions and Disorders of the Breast codes may cover your secondary conditions.
