VA Rating Schedule: every diagnostic code and percentage

The VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities assigns every service-connected condition a diagnostic code, and each code lists what you have to show to earn each percentage. Browse by body system below, or search for a condition by name.

Search the condition in your own words. You do not need the code number.

The schedule is organised by the part of the body affected. Pick a system to see every diagnostic code inside it.

How a rating is built

What the rating schedule actually is.

It is the list the VA uses to turn a diagnosis into a percentage. Three parts, in this order.

  • 01

    A diagnostic code

Every service-connected condition is filed under a four-digit code — 5257 for knee instability, 9411 for PTSD. The code, not the name you use for it, is what the VA rates.

  • 02

    Criteria for each level

Under the code, the schedule spells out what your records have to show to reach each percentage. Some codes use a general formula shared across a whole body system.

  • 03

    A percentage

The rater assigns the highest level your evidence meets. Levels run from 0% up to 100%, and not every code offers every level.

Looking for the regulation itself? The rules behind these percentages live in 38 CFR and the M-21-1 manual.

What percentage does your evidence support?

Six reads your records against the criteria for your diagnostic code and tells you which level you meet and what the VA is still missing.
