Notes on this code
These notes are part of the regulation. They change how the levels above are applied.
- Note: In cases of the removal of one testis as the result of a service-incurred injury or disease, other than an undescended or congenitally undeveloped testis, with the absence or nonfunctioning of the other testis unrelated to service, an evaluation of 30 percent will be assigned for the service-connected testicular loss. Testis, undescended, or congenitally undeveloped is not a ratable disability.
- 1 Review for entitlement to special monthly compensation under § 3.350 of this chapter.
- Note: When evaluating any claim involving loss or loss of use of one or more creative organs, refer to § 3.350 of this chapter to determine whether the veteran may be entitled to special monthly compensation. Footnotes in the schedule indicate conditions which potentially establish entitlement to special monthly compensation; however, there are other conditions in this section which under certain circumstances also establish entitlement to special monthly compensation.
VA Disability Rating: Testis Removal (Diagnostic Code 7524)
Body System: Genitourinary System Regulation: 38 CFR § 4.115b, Diagnostic Code 7524
Understanding This Condition
This rating category covers the removal of a testis (testicle). The VA evaluates this condition under the genitourinary system section of its rating schedule.
Importantly, the rating schedule specifies that an undescended or congenitally undeveloped testis is not a ratable disability. This means the schedule addresses testicular loss related to a service-incurred injury or disease, rather than a condition that was undeveloped from birth.
Available Rating Levels
The VA assigns one of two rating levels for testis removal:
| Rating | What It Reflects |
|---|---|
| 30% | Removal of both testes |
| 0% | Removal of one testis |
A Special Note on Single Testis Removal
The rating schedule includes a specific provision: In cases where one testis is removed as the result of a service-incurred injury or disease (other than an undescended or congenitally undeveloped testis), and the other testis is absent or nonfunctioning for reasons unrelated to service, a 30 percent evaluation will be assigned for the service-connected testicular loss.
What the VA Looks For
When rating this condition, the VA considers:
- The number of testes removed (one or both), which determines the applicable rating level.
- Whether the loss is connected to a service-incurred injury or disease, as opposed to an undescended or congenitally undeveloped testis, which is not ratable.
- The status of the remaining testis in single-removal cases — specifically whether it is absent or nonfunctioning for reasons unrelated to service.
Special Monthly Compensation
This condition involves the loss or loss of use of a creative organ. The rating schedule directs a review for entitlement to Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) under 38 CFR § 3.350.
According to the schedule's notes: When evaluating any claim involving loss or loss of use of one or more creative organs, refer to § 3.350 to determine whether the veteran may be entitled to special monthly compensation. Footnotes in the schedule indicate conditions that potentially establish entitlement to SMC, and the notes state that other conditions in this section may also establish entitlement under certain circumstances.

Knowing the criteria is the first half. Getting your file to show them is the second.
Find your level in the stack
Read each rung against what your medical records already say. The level your records document today is the one the VA can support today.
Name the gap
Look at the rung above yours and write down exactly what it asks for that your file does not show yet — a diagnosis, a measurement, a prescribed brace, a doctor’s opinion linking it to service.
Claim it by code
File under diagnostic code 7524 and attach the evidence for the level you are asking for. Other Genitourinary System codes may cover your secondary conditions.
