Understanding the Condition

Lymphatic filariasis, which includes elephantiasis, is an infectious disease evaluated by the VA under Diagnostic Code 6305. It is rated using the General Rating Formula for Infectious Diseases, part of the body system covering infectious diseases, immune disorders, and nutritional deficiencies.

Because filariasis can leave lasting effects after the infection itself is treated or resolves, the rating schedule addresses both the active disease and any residual disability it may cause.
