# Ankylosis of the Long Finger (VA Diagnostic Code 5226)

## Understanding This Condition

**Ankylosis of the long finger** is a musculoskeletal condition rated under VA Diagnostic Code 5226 (§ 4.71a). "Ankylosis" refers to stiffening or fixation of a joint, meaning the long finger (the middle finger) is unable to move normally.

The VA distinguishes between two forms of ankylosis for rating purposes:

- **Favorable** ankylosis
- **Unfavorable** ankylosis

## Available Rating Levels

For ankylosis of the long finger, the rating schedule provides a single evaluation level:
