## Notes

- Note (1): A 100 percent evaluation shall continue beyond the cessation of any surgical therapy, radiation therapy, antineoplastic chemotherapy, or other therapeutic procedures (including autologous stem cell transplantation). Six months after discontinuance of such treatment, the appropriate disability rating shall be determined by mandatory VA examination. Any change in evaluation based upon that or any subsequent examination shall be subject to the provisions of § 3.105(e) of this chapter. If there has been no recurrence, rate residuals under the appropriate diagnostic codes
- Note (2): Rate a solitary plasmacytoma that has developed into multiple myeloma as symptomatic multiple myeloma
- Note (3): Rate residuals of plasma cell dysplasia (e.g., thrombosis) and adverse effects of medical treatment (e.g., neuropathy) under the appropriate diagnostic codes

# Solitary Plasmacytoma (VA Diagnostic Code 7724)

## What Is Solitary Plasmacytoma?

Solitary plasmacytoma is a condition of the blood and lymphatic system (the hemic and lymphatic systems). The VA rates this condition under Diagnostic Code 7724, which is part of the schedule of ratings for the hemic and lymphatic systems in § 4.117.

## Available Rating Level

Under Diagnostic Code 7724, the VA assigns the following evaluation:

## What the VA Looks For

The VA evaluates solitary plasmacytoma based on whether there is **active disease** or whether the veteran is in a **treatment phase**. When either applies, a 100 percent evaluation is assigned.

Several important notes govern how this condition is rated over time:

- **Continuation of the 100% rating (Note 1):** A 100 percent evaluation continues beyond the end of any surgical therapy, radiation therapy, antineoplastic chemotherapy, or other therapeutic procedures — including autologous stem cell transplantation. **Six months after** such treatment is discontinued, the appropriate disability rating is determined by a **mandatory VA examination**. Any change in evaluation based on that examination — or any later examination — is subject to the provisions of § 3.105(e). If there has been **no recurrence**, the VA rates any residuals under the appropriate diagnostic codes.

- **Progression to multiple myeloma (Note 2):** A solitary plasmacytoma that has developed into multiple myeloma is rated as symptomatic multiple myeloma.

- **Residuals and treatment effects (Note 3):** Residuals of plasma cell dysplasia (for example, thrombosis) and adverse effects of medical treatment (for example, neuropathy) are rated under the appropriate diagnostic codes.
