| Rating | Criteria |

| 50% | Lesions involving bowel or bladder confirmed by laparoscopy, pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding not controlled by treatment, and bowel or bladder symptoms |
| 30% | Pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding not controlled by treatment |
| 10% | Pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding requiring continuous treatment for control |

# Endometriosis (VA Diagnostic Code 7629)

## Understanding Your VA Rating for Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a gynecological condition rated by the VA under **Diagnostic Code 7629**, found in **§ 4.116** and classified within the body system of **Gynecological Conditions and Disorders of the Breast**.

The VA assigns a disability rating based on the severity of your symptoms, how well they respond to treatment, and whether the condition involves other organs such as the bowel or bladder. Ratings range from 10% to 50%.

## Available Rating Levels

The VA uses the following levels when evaluating endometriosis:

### 50%
Lesions involving bowel or bladder confirmed by laparoscopy, pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding not controlled by treatment, and bowel or bladder symptoms.

### 30%
Pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding not controlled by treatment.

### 10%
Pelvic pain or heavy or irregular bleeding requiring continuous treatment for control.

## What the VA Looks For

When rating endometriosis, the VA focuses on the following factors:

- **Confirmation of diagnosis:** The diagnosis of endometriosis must be substantiated by laparoscopy.
- **Type and severity of symptoms:** Pelvic pain and heavy or irregular bleeding are central to how the condition is rated.
- **Response to treatment:** The VA distinguishes between symptoms that require continuous treatment for control (10%) and symptoms that are not controlled by treatment (30%).
- **Involvement of other organs:** The highest level (50%) applies when lesions involve the bowel or bladder—confirmed by laparoscopy—along with uncontrolled pelvic pain or bleeding and bowel or bladder symptoms.
