## Rating criteria

| Rating | Criteria |

| 30% | With three or more clinically documented attacks of right upper quadrant pain with nausea and vomiting during the past 12 months; or requiring dilatation of biliary tract strictures at least once during the past 12 months. |
| 10% | With one or two clinically documented attacks of right upper quadrant pain with nausea and vomiting in the past 12 months. |
| 0% | Asymptomatic, without history of a clinically documented attack of right upper quadrant pain with nausea and vomiting in the past 12 months. |

# Chronic Cholelithiasis (Gallstones) — VA Disability Rating (Diagnostic Code 7315)

## Understanding This Condition

Chronic cholelithiasis is the medical term for chronic gallstones. It is part of the **Digestive System** group of conditions in the VA's rating schedule and is found under **Diagnostic Code 7315** in **§ 4.114** of the federal regulations.

Because gallstones affect the biliary tract, the VA rates chronic cholelithiasis using the same criteria as **chronic biliary tract disease (Diagnostic Code 7314)**. Assigned when there are **one or two clinically documented attacks** of right upper quadrant pain with nausea and vomiting in the past 12 months.

### 0%
Assigned when the condition is **asymptomatic**, with **no history of a clinically documented attack** of right upper quadrant pain with nausea and vomiting in the past 12 months.
