## Rating criteria

| Rating | Criteria |
| --- | --- |
| 30% | Confirmed by ECG, with five or more treatment interventions per year |
| 10% | Confirmed by ECG, with one to four treatment interventions per year; or, confirmed by ECG with either continuous use of oral medications to control or use of vagal maneuvers to control |

## Notes

- For DCs 7009, 7010, 7011, and 7015, a single evaluation will be assigned under the diagnostic code that reflects the predominant disability picture.
- Note (1): Examples of supraventricular tachycardia include, but are not limited to: Atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, sinus tachycardia, sinoatrial nodal reentrant tachycardia, atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia, atrial tachycardia, junctional tachycardia, and multifocal atrial tachycardia.
- Note (2): For the purposes of this diagnostic code, a treatment intervention occurs whenever a symptomatic patient requires intravenous pharmacologic adjustment, cardioversion, and/or ablation for symptom relief.

# Supraventricular Tachycardia (VA Diagnostic Code 7010)

**Understanding how the VA rates supraventricular tachycardia under 38 CFR § 4.104.**

## What Is Supraventricular Tachycardia?

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a cardiovascular condition rated by the VA under Diagnostic Code 7010 in § 4.104 (Cardiovascular System).

Examples of supraventricular tachycardia include, but are not limited to:

- Atrial fibrillation
- Atrial flutter
- Sinus tachycardia
- Sinoatrial nodal reentrant tachycardia
- Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia
- Atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia
- Atrial tachycardia
- Junctional tachycardia
- Multifocal atrial tachycardia

## Available Rating Levels

The VA assigns a disability rating based on how the condition is confirmed and how frequently treatment interventions are required.

| Rating | What the criteria describe |
| ------ | -------------------------- |
| **30%** | Confirmed by ECG, with five or more treatment interventions per year |
| **10%** | Confirmed by ECG, with one to four treatment interventions per year; **or** confirmed by ECG with either continuous use of oral medications to control or use of vagal maneuvers to control |

## What the VA Looks For

When rating supraventricular tachycardia, the VA considers:

- **ECG confirmation.** Each rating level requires that the condition be confirmed by ECG.
- **The number of treatment interventions per year.** For the purposes of this diagnostic code, a treatment intervention occurs whenever a symptomatic patient requires intravenous pharmacologic adjustment, cardioversion, and/or ablation for symptom relief.
- **Ongoing management.** The 10% level may also apply when the condition is confirmed by ECG with either continuous use of oral medications to control or the use of vagal maneuvers to control.

## Important Note

For Diagnostic Codes 7009, 7010, 7011, and 7015, a single evaluation will be assigned under the diagnostic code that reflects the predominant disability picture.
